Hands Across The Water
Foster Parenting Options
(for Michigan families)
The Foster Care Programs
at Hands Across The Water, are committed to actively recruiting
foster parents who are able to foster children served by this
agency.
HATW
follows a non-discrimination practice and does not establish screening
criteria based on race, creed, color, ethnicity, religion, sex, sexual
orientation, gender orientation, gender expression, or national origin.
We work with those who are single, and both married and partnered
couples.
Our Foster Care Programs
focus on recruiting foster families who have training, experiences or
special skills which will enable them to parent children in these
categories, or are willing and able to aquire such experience or
training. Training is free.
Our Foster Care Programs
offer services to children of all religions, races, cultures and ethnic
backgrounds and their families. Children placed in the
Foster Care Programs range in age from 0 to 18 and will focus on
placing children who have been removed from their families of origin by
order of the court because of neglect or abuse or other family
problems. Efforts to keep siblings together if determined to be
in the best interest of the children will be a priority. Often these
children become available for adoption.
Typical behaviors exhibited by the children in the Foster Care Program
will range from behaviors typical of a child of the same developmental
stage, to severe behavioral needs associated with the child’s history
of abuse and/or neglect as well physical, cognitive and developmental
delays and mental health diagnoses. The number of foster homes
recruited will relate directly to the number of children coming into
care and needing placement.
